Motiva Port Arthur Expansion, Port Arthur, LA

Results

The Motiva Port Arthur Expansion Project doubled the facility’s processing capacity, making it the largest refinery in North America and one of the largest in the world. This expansion, comprised of several individual projects, involved a total investment of $10 billion dollars and 35 million job hours worked.

The overall project allowed the refinery to produce a larger variety of crude oils. Some of their major products produced are gasoline, jet fuel and base oils.

Working under S&B, Insulations, Inc. performed the Pipe and Equipment Insulation on the Sulphur Block Unit 2 Project (SBU2). The project value was $16,600,000 and involved more than 400,000 man hours, with a peak manpower of 340.

We also completed the Piping Insulation on the GC3 OSBL project. This work was completed for Turner Industries and was valued at $10,300,000. Our peak manpower on this project was 300 and our total man hours were 106, 512.

As the Port Arthur Expansion Project was a major endeavor for Motiva, all projects undertaken had definitive deadlines and involved extensive coordination efforts with other contractors on site. Our skilled crews, supervision and project management successfully planned and scheduled all facets of these projects including purchasing, material scheduling and installation.

Effective communication with our client is critical. We, at Insulations, Inc. know the importance of project controls. We must have an accurate picture of progress and cost on a daily and weekly basis. Without this, we cannot provide our clients with the tools necessary to keep projects moving forward.
